Schackenborg Castle is today owned and operated by the Schackenborg Foundation. The foundation was founded on 30 June 2014 by Prince Joachim, Bitten and Mads Clausens Fond, ECCO Holding A/S and Ole Kirks Fond and has Prince Joachim and Princess Marie as patrons. The foundation is a non-profit, commercial foundation that has taken over Schackenborg Castle and a farm belonging to it, with the aim of opening the castle and park to the public, to give the royal family the opportunity for occasional stays at the castle in order to maintain the close contact between the Royal House and Southern Jutland and, to the extent possible, to support charitable and non-profit purposes.
