In Tøndermarsh, there are numerous hiking experiences. Try the 54 km long hiking route, Marskstien, or one of the 8 trail loops. Harvest wild herbs throughout Tøndermarsh and use them in your cooking when you return home. Witness the diverse range of birds, from starlings and sandpipers to barnacle geese and eagles.
Marskstien is certified as a quality hiking trail: Leading Quality Trail – Best of Europe. This recognition comes from the European hiking organization, the European Ramblers Association.
Marskstien passes right by Schackenborg Slotskro, where you can experience the beautiful flat landscape either on foot or by bike.
Explore the two towns, Tønder and Møgeltønder. As Tønder is situated very low in the landscape, the town is one of the primary reasons for the construction of dikes in the 16th century. In Tønder, you will pass by Tønder Kristkirke and gabled houses in the pedestrian street. In Møgeltønder, you stroll along the beautiful Slotsgade. You will pass by Schackenborg, the Røj barn, and the Slotsfeltladen with its unique roof.
On Marskstien, you feel the wind and see the flat landscape, with nature and especially birds as far as the eye can see. On the trail, you experience everything from dikes and pumping stations to marshland, canals, and lakes with unique nature and birdlife. On the edge of the marsh, you pass through a series of distinctive towns. Tønder, Møgeltønder, and Højer are located on Gesten. Rudbøl and Nørremølle are the only towns built on dikes in Denmark.
If you wish to cycle on Marskstien or around the area, you can now rent e-bikes at the reception. We have 4 e-bikes available, allowing you to embark on an adventure and explore the beautiful nature around Schackenborg on an electric bike.
The e-bikes can be rented for only 175 DKK per person for a full day.
