Schackenborg Castle is a royal castle and the place where past meets present. On a guided tour you will be taken on a historical journey about the skilled warlord Hans Schack, the mad countess, the beautiful Otto Didrik and the children's trees in the Castle Garden. See the castle, where the princely couple HRH Prince Joachim and HRH Princess Marie lived until 2014 and now use as their second home. The Knight's Hall, the Golden Salon, the Winter Room, the Library and HM Queen Margrethe's room bear witness to a living history. Read more about the Castle https://schackenborg.dk/en/the-castle/

In order to preserve the historic interiors , photography or filming is not permitted inside, and the castle is under video surveillance throughout the visit.

It is the middle section of the castle that is open to visitors. Other parts of Schackenborg Castle function as private residences – including for HRH Prince Joachim and his family when they are staying there.

From around March 13 to April 4, nature shows you its most spectacular spectacle in Tøndermarsken. When thousands of starlings gather for the night in the reed forests, the enormous flocks dance across the evening sky in living formations – a natural spectacle you will never forget. The dizzying patterns are not only beautiful, but also the starlings’ way of protecting themselves from birds of prey. Sparrowhawks, harriers, goshawks – and sometimes even the world’s fastest bird, the peregrine falcon – lurk in the shadows. For the starlings, community is their shield, and for you it becomes pure magic.
