The Tønder marsh offers a wealth of hiking experiences. Try the 54 km long hiking route Marskstien or one of the 8 trail loops. Collect wild herbs throughout the Tønder Marsh and use them in cooking when you get home. Experience the many different birds, from starlings and terns to gannets and sea eagles.
The Marskstien is certified as a quality hiking route: Leading Quality Trail – Best of Europe. The recognition comes from the European hiking organisation, the European Ramblers Association. The Marskstien goes right past Schackenborg Slotskro, where you can experience the beautiful flat landscape either on foot or by bike.
Experience the two towns of Tønder and Møgeltønder. As Tønder lies very low in the landscape, the town is one of the primary reasons why dikes began to be built in the 16th century. In Tønder you pass, among other things, Tønder Christ Church and gabled houses in the pedestrian street. In Møgeltønder you walk along the beautiful Slotsgade. You pass Schackenborg, the Røj barn and the Slotsfeltladen with the unique roof.
On the Marskstien you feel the wind and see the flat landscape, with nature and especially birds as far as the eye can see. On the trail, you will experience everything from dykes and pumping stations to marshland, canals and lakes with unique nature and birdlife. On the edge of the marsh, you pass through a series of distinctive towns. Tønder, Møgeltønder and Højer are located on Gesten. Rudbøl and Nørremølle are the only cities built on dykes in Denmark.
If you want to cycle on the Marskstien or around the area, you can, as a brand new thing, rent e-bikes at the reception. We have 4 electric bikes available, so you can go on an adventure and explore the beautiful nature around Schackenborg on an electric bike.
The electric bikes can be rented for only DKK 175 per person. person for a whole day.
