If you are fascinated by history or interested in the royal family, you can look forward to a guided tour filled with anecdotes from our knowledgeable guides as you walk through the legendary halls and experience the castle up close.

When you cross the castle courtyard, stroll through the atmospheric castle gardens or step into the royal halls, you are not just walking in the present. You are following in footsteps that stretch back more than 1,000 years – back to the time when Møgeltønderhus, as Schackenborg Castle was originally called, was one of the bastions of the Danish crown and the church in the struggle against the Holstein counts. You will be taken back to the construction of Schackenborg and through the 11 generations of the Schack family who called the castle their home.

The Christmas tours take place from November 13 to December 18, and you can book your ticket here on the website. If you would like the full Christmas experience, a Christmas tour is included in our very special Christmas Stay package.

Please note that in December, the Christmas tours take place every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 1:30 pm. There are also extra tours on Saturday December 6 and December 13 at 11:00 am.

The tour lasts approximately 1 hour and is conducted in Danish. Participants receive a 10% discount on lunch at the Castle Inn in connection with the tour.

As Christmas approaches, a special sense of calm settles over Schackenborg Castle and the Castle Inn.

Take a festive stroll down the beautifully decorated Slotsgade, visit the historic castle on a special Christmas tour, and look forward to a 3-course dinner in Restaurant Herskabsstalden, where the kitchen reinterprets Christmas classics with local ingredients and a deep love for the season.

After dinner, a charming room on Slotsgade or a suite at the end of the historic avenue awaits you – all just a few steps from the Castle Inn.

The castle, the inn – indeed the whole of Møgeltønder – is dressed in lights, Christmas decorations, and charming traditions. You will feel it all when you book our special Christmas Stay at the Castle Inn. The stay is only available for a limited period from November 18 to December 18.
