About the stay

As autumn settles over the marshlands and nature turns to warm, golden hues, we open the doors to a truly special experience stay, bringing you closer to the history of the castle, the surrounding nature and local culture.

With Schackenborg Slotskro as your base, your experience begins with royal stories at Schackenborg Castle, continues with a delicious three-course dinner at Slotskroen and concludes with an overnight stay in one of the charming houses along Slotsgaden. All in the heart of historic Møgeltønder, just a few kilometres from Tønder and the beautiful landscapes of Southern Jutland, which take on a character all their own during the autumn months.

Give yourself a moment to unwind as tranquillity settles over the marshlands. An experience that will stay with you long after your visit.

Arrival and accommodation at Schackenborg Slotskro in one of our charming houses along Slotsgaden

Historical guided tour of Schackenborg Castle with a Danish-speaking guide at 1:30 pm

Coffee and something sweet outdoors before the walk

A guided walk along the dykes of the marshlands (approx. 5 km at a leisurely pace), where you will hear about the historic struggle against the water and the unique landscape that has shaped the area

If you have received a gift certificate for Schackenborg Slotskro, this can be used to pay in full or in part for your stay or purchase in the restaurant Slotskroen or the pop-up restaurant in Slotshaven Herskabsstalden. Please mention your gift certificate when ordering to the reception or the waiter of the day.

The reservation can be cancelled free of charge up to 48 hours before arrival. If there are less than 48 hours until arrival, a fee equivalent to the first night's accommodation price will be charged. Any additional nights will be cancelled free of charge. If you have booked 5 rooms or more, the cancellation deadline is 7 days before arrival unless otherwise agreed.

At Schackenborg we offer gastronomic experiences at our two restaurants:

Slotskroen's restaurant offers delicious lunches, afternoon coffee and homemade cakes, as well as an exciting á la carte Brasserie menu. Furthermore, our 5-7 gourmet servings can be enjoyed here from Thursday to Saturday.

The Manor Stables is located in the beautiful Castle Gardens and is open seasonally. The Manor Stables can be booked for events all year round.
